ATC Awards ‘15
A reminder to book your ticket to the annual ATC Awards Ceremony and Year-End Function, happening this coming Tuesday, 1 December 2015, at the Mykonos Taverna in Sea Point! Book your share of their signature dish, Kleftiko Lamb Shank, or choose one of the other main dishes listed on the attached flyer.
Please nominate yourself or a fellow club member for one of our formal performance or service awards to assist the committee with what is going to be some difficult decisions to make this year. Members and Non-members can also be nominated for our Informal Awards.
All the details about the event and links to RSVP and Nominate can be found on the Awards 15 Events Page on our web site.
We would prefer to manage bookings through the on-line shop (as per the link above) but if you experience a problem with purchasing a ticket on-line, please reply to this email with your booking and / or nomination.
ATC Legends Challenge
Currently joining Chuck Norris and Zelda Vondamite in the charge to prevent Gert Wilkins from re-claiming ATC Legend status are: Caitlin van den Berg, Douglas Burger, Esther Patience, Karen Graaff, Piet Viljoen, Steve Peirce, Taschyana Hurter, Wouter Vink, or perhaps you?!
This year we are limiting the number of events to 24 so if you have done, on average, two events per month between October 2014 and September 2015, you could be the Legend this year. For more details and to claim your points, visit the ATC Legends Page.
Embark Training & Workshops
Have you set your sporting goals for next year? With an extensive list of great events like the Two Oceans Ultra and Half, the AfricanX three day trail run, the Ironman SA in Port Elizabeth and the 70.3 Half Ironman in Durban, as well as the WTS Cape Town ITU Triathlon and Duathlon, there are enough to keep you busy for the whole year! And there is a complete beginners TRI course starting in January.
Perhaps further afield is more appealing? A marathon in Mauritius in July, or an Ironman 70.3 in Croatia in September? Embark is offering coaching for all these events, whether it be group coaching or personalised programs. The programs are offered at most of the branches (Atlantic Seaboard, Southern Suburbs, Northern Suburbs, Blouberg and Somerset West) and there are now two branches in Johannesburg too.
This Saturday there is a trail running workshop aimed at the AfricanX trail run. Even if you don’t plan on doing the AfricanX, the workshop will offer valuable insight into technical running and equipment, and will include a practical too! This will take place at the Green Point Cricket Club at 09:00 on Saturday 28 November.
On Saturday afternoon, the orientation meeting for the Summer Beginners Triathlon course, takes place in the Southern Suburbs. EVERYTHING you need to know about becoming a triathlete will be covered, while taking the intimidation factor out! This will take place at Bootleggers, Kenilworth, at 16:00 on 28 November.
Orientation for the Two Oceans Ultra marathon training will take place on Wednesday, 2 December at 18:00, at the Body20 Studio, in Claremont. This will include discussions on race details, the training plan, injury prevention, strength training and what to expect on the day.
Check out www.embark.co.za for all the listings, start dates and orientation details.
Affiliation
We have received notification from Triathlon SA that early bird registrations will close on 30 November. This doesn’t really affect WP Triathlon members as our rates for 2016 will remain the same. However, if you have not yet, please complete your TSA license application and payment today so we can include this in our next batch, to be processed in time for Jailbreak.
2016 Athletics SA Licenses will be available in December. The rate will remain R120 for a senior license. 2015 ASA Running licenses will be valid until the end of January 2016.
Effective 1 November 2015, the new Cycling SA Membership rate is R 150 per year.
Member Personal News:
Congratulations to Sarah Cotton and Nolan Daniel on the birth of their baba boy Harvey, who was born yesterday.
RESULTS:
At last week’s Kids Athletics Track & Field event, held at Vygieskraal, the ATC youngsters performed exceptionally well:
U/14 Boys: John Dean won the 100m and was second in the Long Jump. Owen Jansen won the 800m individual event.
U/12 Boys: The ATC Kids came 3rd in the relay. This was especially nice since we had a girl in our team.
U/12 Girls: Leshe Fortuin came second in the 100m individual event.
We can’t wait to see the kids in action at one of our track sessions on the blue track and will arrange for them to come and show us how it’s done as soon as exams are out of the way.
TRAINING THIS WEEK: Details here...
SWIM: The Canal Swim will be on Friday morning at 06:00. Parking is more difficult to find so please arrive a little earlier to ensure that you sign in by 06:00. We cannot allow members to start any later as we have to pack up and clear the area by 06:45.
BIKE: Our mid-week rides (Thursdays) will be on the road. We will start at 05:30 from the Point Virgin Active and will ride to Hout Bay and back.
This weekend we will take a break from training rides as it is the Stellenbosch Fietstoer.
RUN: We have now settled into the Tuesday morning and Wednesday afternoon track sessions at the Green Point Athletics Track. The ATC office and shop in the container will also be open during these times.
EVENTS: Details here...
The Origin of Trails two-day Mountain Bike Stage Race started this morning in Stellenbosch.
The last event in the Biathle Series takes place on Friday evening at the Rustenburg Girls High School.
This weekend is the Benguela Cove Adventure Weekend with Open Water Swim (2 Km or 600m), Mountain Bike (36 or 9 Km) and Trail Running (9 or 5.6 Km) events.
On Saturday is the Muizenberg Mountain Run. It’s only 12 Kms but it’s called a mountain run for good reason.
The last seeding event for the 2016 Cape Town Cycle Tour (Argus) takes place on Sunday at the Stellenbosch High School. The Stellenbosch Cycle Tour (formerly known as Die Burger Fietstoer) is a 95 Km fairly fast road race. Good luck to all the members taking part!
FUTURE EVENTS:
Entries for the 2016 Comrades Ultra Marathon close on Monday 30 November.
A new Triathlon for the Cape was launched this week! The Cape Ultra Triathlon, sponsored by MiWay and hosted by B-Active Sports Management will take place on 25 September 2016. B-Active also hosts the Midlands Ultra taking place this Sunday at the Midmar Dam.
Enjoy the Weekend!
