NEWS:
Congratulations to Dr Debbie Alexander, who has recently stepped down as President of Triathlon South Africa, for her selection onto the Board of the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC). Debbie was also re-elected to the International Triathlon Union (ITU) Executive Board for another 4 year term.
Congratulations to Rashiek Schroeder and Rifqa Van Haaght on the birth of their baby girl, Rahma, who was born on the 9th of December.
ATC Development Awards
ATC Development held its annual awards ceremony for the younger kids on Saturday afternoon. Congratulations to the ATC Kids Runner of the Year, Jenedean Rudolph. Ashwin Beukes received the award for the Most Consistent Performance. Sixteen of the other youngsters received certificates for consistent participation in Track & Field, Cross Country and Road Running. If you read this newsletter regularly you will recognise these names as they often appear for top positions in their age categories: Bruzonia Brits, Casedy Rudolph, Christopher Beukes, Eldino Thompson, Esten Everts, Gailine Aries, Human Beukes, Jayline Sevieres, Jesnique April, Junior Beukes, Juraida Aries, Leshe Fortuin, Shamodean Koonthea, Shaun-D Beukes, Shaunica Phillips and Tamaryn Beukes.
The kids will now take a short break from training before hitting the New Year running with Track & Field events as well as the Spur Cape Summer Trail Series.
New Year’s Resolutions
For many the year ended on a high note with completing their first Olympic distance Triathlon at Jailbreak. Or logging a vastly improved time. January will see the start of three programs from Embark for similar goals so if your New Year’s Resolution is sports-related you are set.
Ironman 70.3 Durban – Starts 10 January 2017
If you are considering entering Ironman 70.3 Durban, or have already done so, then now’s the time to start training for it. If you are currently swimming 400m nonstop, riding 40kms on the road and running 5-8kms, then you are at the level that Embark requires to begin with the group training in January. If you are not currently at this level and require some help and motivation to get there, then get in touch with Embark and join the build-up or the beginners program.
BEGINNERS Triathlon Course – Starts 10 January 2017
Are you keen to do your first triathlon, but you just don’t know where to start? Welcome to Embark Triathlon Training! The program will help you achieve that goal through comprehensive hands on, coached group training. Since 2010, Embark has helped over a thousand beginner athletes to cross the finish line of their first Triathlon, and then on to bigger challenges, such as Ironman, 70.3, CT Cycle Tour Two Oceans marathon and more.
The new beginners program starts with an orientation evening on the 10th of January at the Green Point Cricket Club. Then you will slowly get into the different disciplines of Swim, Bike and Run! There is no level of fitness or proficiency expected for the course, and the program caters for the very beginner athlete in a fun, social and controlled environment.
Two Oceans Half Marathon Coached Group Training – Starts 14 January 2017
Coached group training has proven to be the spring board for great improvement, better results and a more enjoyable race day! Starting on 14 January, this Embark program will get you ready for the Old Mutual Two Oceans Half Marathon, which takes place on the 15th of April 2017. There will be an orientation evening to settle nerves and to explain how the training works, at the Green Point Cricket Club at 18:00.
Embark Programs
Embark programs are offered in the City and Atlantic Seaboard, Northern Suburbs, Blouberg, Southern Suburbs and Johannesburg. You can join any program and train at any of the venues that suit you. All areas follow the same structure. For more details, please visit www.embark.co.za.
Torpedo SwimRun – 15 January 2017
A new type of multisport event will hit our shores in January, the Torpedo SwimRun! This emerging multisport format involves racing through sea and land, against nature’s most dramatic settings. The race will take place on 15 January 2017, from Hout Bay to Clifton and will cover a total distance of 16 Kilometres. There will be 3 Km of swimming, over 8 segments and 13 Km of running, over 8 segments.

RESULTS:
This season we were privileged to have two Triathlons in the beautiful Slanghoek valley! That means, at least, two bottles of award winning wine from the Breeland Cellar and two dives off the built-for-triathlon platform into that awesome little dam. This week we publish all the ATC’ers results from both these events. (Please view the tables further down in this email) Congratulations to all the athletes who took part!
Ultra Trail Cape Town
The Ultra Trail Cape Town mega trail run took place on Saturday. Caitlin Van Den Berg did the 65 Km run and was the 1st Veteran lady home.
Dirtopia Trilogy
At the Dirotopia Trilogy trail run, held on the Warwick Estate, Barry Goliath was the 3rd in the 10 Km run.

Festive Season Events (recap):
ATC Pub Run ’16:
The annual ATC Pub will take place today (Wednesday 14 December), starting from the Green Point Cricket Club at 18:00. We will visit a couple of pubs in Sea Point and Green Point and will finish back at the club. If you are doing the Sundowner run, come and find us after the run at GPCC or Extrablatt. Check our Twitter feed for the exact location.
On Wednesday is the Sundowner 10K Nite run, starting and finishing in the V&A Waterfront.
The Reconciliation Day 10K Run takes place on Friday, 16 December, from the NY 49 Stadium in Gugulethu.
The Reconciliation Day (Barker Rock) Swim takes place next Friday from Clifton 3rd Beach.
The Tokai Manor House 16 K Run takes place from the Cape Academy, Firgrove Way, Constantia, on Monday, 26 December.
The Runners Memorial 8K Run takes place on New Year’s Eve (Saturday), from the Mouillie Point Light House.
The Clifton New Year’s Cold Water Mile takes place on New Year’s Day (Sunday) from Clifton 4th beach.
Casting For Erdinger Ad:
Magic Mountain Productions is looking for male and female athletes, between the ages 20 and 35, of all races, for an international Erdinger commercial. If casted, they will pay up to R30000 per day. ATC will receive commission for all successful models referred by us so please state our name as your referral. Open casting will take place on Friday 16 December at 2 Wesley Street (between Hope and Buitenkant), Gardens. You can go at any time between 09:00 and 14:00, np appointment necessary. Future Events:
Ironman 70.3 Cascais, Portugal
After a very successful tour to Ironman 70.3 Pula, Croatia, in 2016, we have decided to head to Portugal to do their inaugural 70.3 on Sunday, 3 September, 2017! The tour will be from 31 Aug – 4 Sept 2017 and will include accommodation in a 4 Star hotel in Cascais, breakfast included daily, your race entry and ATC / Embark co-branded touring kit. Westcoast Warm Water Weekend

Comrades Marathon
