The Classic ATC T-Shirt is back for Ten!
ATC is officially 10 years old this month!  Sporting special branding to commemorate our 10 year anniversary, the classic ATC T-Shirt is back.  We have selected a quality T-Shirt for this special edition and adapted our classic Atlantic Triathlon Club branding slightly for the 10 year celebrations.  The T-Shirts will be on sale at the ATC Container, or on-line, from Wednesday 13 July onwards.  These are expected to sell out quickly so come and buy one at the container or reserve yours on-line through Tri SPaza.   The T-Shirt will sell for R250 during July.  From 1 August onwards the price will increase to R300.  We have credit card facilities at the container for over the counter or on-line purchases.

New Cape Town Unicity Triathlon Association Formed
In line with SASCOC requirements for provincial sports governing bodies to align with Districts created within each province, the new Cape Town Unicity Triathlon Association has been established!  CTUTA will be one of 6 Districts, which used to form part of the old Western Province.  CTUTA will liaise directly with TSA and will select a team to represent us at the national championships.  Governing bodies for the other 5 districts, including Cape Winelands, West Coast, Overberg, Central Karoo and Eden will also be formed in due course.  These districts will report to the Western Cape Sport Council through the Western Cape Triathlon Association, which will be formed once more of the districts have been established.

WCTA will control the six Districts so that there is uniformity in the Province.  A lot of work has happened in the background and an interim committee has been elected to manage this until more districts have been established.

The committee of the Cape Town Unicity Triathlon Association is working hard to ensure that it is open for business in time for the new season, which starts in September.  The constitution has been adopted by the committee and distributed to all the clubs for comment.  It will be submitted to TSA for approval later this month.  Once approved, the constitution will be published and the CTUTA will be official!  The old Western Province Triathlon Association will then fall away.

The newly appointed Cape Town Unicity Triathlon Association Committee is as follows:
Chairman:  Justin Manson-Kullin
Vice Chairman:  Gert Wilkins
Secretary:  Lynne Manson-Kullin
Treasurer:  Alice Oosthuizen
Technical:  Mike Hodgson
Events:  Rolf Muller
Marketing:  Debbie Hibbert
Membership:  Jayne Broderick
Development:  TBA

All current members of the Western Province Triathlon Association are welcome to request a copy of the new CTUTA constitution in the meantime, should they wish to review this before it is adopted.

Embark Running Training
Great news!  The Gun Run date has been set for the 16th of October and lo longer clashes with the Freshpak Clanwilliam Festival.  So now we can all run this very popular half, right on our doorstep.  Entries opened on Monday.  If you’ve been thinking about running, or even if you haven’t, come down to the Embark Orientation evening for the Gun Run Group Training program on Tuesday 26 July, at 18:00, to hear what this 12 week program is all about and how you can conquer this Half Marathon, or run a PB!

The Embark Cape Town Marathon program is a continuation from the Knysna Half and Marathon programs and starts next Tuesday, 19 July.  Join Garth for this popular full marathon in the heart of Cape Town, which is fast becoming a major international marathon.  Come down to the GPCC at 18:00 for a quick overview of the program and then a short run to kick-start the training.

More detailed results of our members have been published in our ATC Results Blog

It seems like June wasn’t a good month for Ironman swims.  At Ironman 70.3 Durban the swim was cancelled for Age Groupers due to a rough sea with big swell and dangerous rip currents.  At Ironman 70.3 Luxembourg the swim was cancelled due to a flooding river.  At Ironman 70.3 Pescara, in Italy, the swim was called off after the first couple of swim waves had already started, the race was neutralised and re-started as a Duathlon.  ATC had participants at all these events and did an on-line survey to gauge how this affected their races and performance.  Feedback from this survey can be viewed on our ATC Results Blog

Knysna Big 5 Challenge & LITE
Congratulations to all the members who completed the Knysna Big 5 Challenge or Big 5 LITE!  It was once again a great week of racing and a great festival.  Thank you very much to all the ATC members who took part and raced hard to ensure that we retain our champ status and return the Big 5 Club Challenge Trophy to Cape Town.
After a problem with the Mountain Bike (Stage I) times of some riders, organisers decided to award joint-3rd position to Dean Hopf and Davide Del Fante, who were the leading age groupers of the event, behind Pros Stuart Marais and Theo Blignaut.  Stuart delivered convincing performances throughout the event, winning this title for the 5th time, whilst Theo successfully re-claimed his silver from last year.

In the Big 5 LITE, Piet Viljoen took 3rd to share the podium with “youngsters” and Angelique Edwards, as a newcomer to Multisport, finished 3rd under the ladies. Lucy Gauntlett won the Suunto Spirit of the Big 5 Award after she overcame a brake failure on Simola Hill and completed the DUALX on a XL Mountain Bike, which some may describe as a “garden gate”.

We are still waiting for the final results and will publish all our members’ results when this becomes available.
