26 Mar '15: ATC NEWS
Published by ATC Multisport on Thu, 26 Mar 2015Ironman! – No Canal Swim – Pics of First Track Session
NEWS:
We had a fantastic turnout for the first track session at our new base at the Green Point Cricket Club! Thanks very much to everyone who attended. Simon Katz took some great pics of the session and we have uploaded these to the ATC Facebook Page. Please have a look and like the page so that we can tag you. We look forward to many exiting training and social sessions here.
Container Storage
We are looking at acquiring a 12 metre container, which will be placed within the GPCC to provide storage space for ATC. This is a significant expense for ATC so if you have any contacts in the container business, please let us know.
RESULTS:
We are somewhat disappointed for Jay Richards after he returned from the 31st SA Masters Long Course Gala National Championships without a single bronze medal! It was an intense four day gala with long days and longer nights. Below is the list of medals he did come back with: 50 m Free, Silver; 4 x 50m Mixed Medley, Gold; 50m Backstroke, Silver; 100m Backstroke, Silver; 200m IM, Gold; 4 x 50m Men’s Free Relay, Gold; 100m Freestyle, Silver; 4 x 100m Men’s Medley Relay, Gold plus a new SA Record; 4 x 50m Mixed Medley Relay, Silver; 50m Butterfly, Silver; 4 x 50m Men’s Medley Relay 2nd (Disqualified – Fly swimmer); Dash for Cash, fastest men under 50, 4th.
Congratulations Jay!
Congratulations to Cobus and Caitlin Van Den Berg, from team Hammer, who were the second Mixed Vets Team at the AfricanX 3-day trail stage race.
David Taitz competed at the first International Ice Swimming Association World Championships in Murmansk, Russia. David swam 1 Km in Zero degrees water and reported that it was the hardest thing he has ever done, mentally and physically. The recovery was actually worse than the swim itself. Russian Vodka helps with warming up though. Well done David.
Richard Murray won the New Plymouth ITU Triathlon World Cup event in New Zealand last week! Richard is having a great start to the season after he also placed third at the 2015 ITU World Triathlon Series season opener in Abu Dhabi on 7 March. We look forward to seeing Richard in action at the Discovery WTS event in Cape Town on 26 April.
TRAINING THIS WEEKend:
CANAL SWIM: A reminder that there will be NO Canal Swim tomorrow or next Friday. The next swim will be on Saturday 11 April at 16:00.
RUN: On Tuesday 31 March there will be a track session in the morning at 06:00 and in the afternoon at 18:00. Both sessions will be at the Green Point Cricket Club.
We have not scheduled any other training sessions this weekend or next week due to Ironman, Two Oceans and the Easter Holidays.
EVENTS:
Well, it is that time again! Over a hundred ATC and Embark Triathletes are heading to Port Elizabeth for the Ironman Africa Championships taking place on Sunday. We’ve published a list of the ATC’ers taking part along with their race numbers on the on-line version of this newsletter. Please view the list below. SMS your athlete’s race number to 39408 to track their progress on race day. Good luck to all the ATC’ers taking part!
Local events include the Telkom Athletic Club’s 10 K at CPUT in Bellville on Saturday and the Spar Ladies Challenge in Green Point on Sunday. The Dirtopia Easter Trail Run takes place at the Warwick Wine Estate, near Stellenbosch, on Sunday. 15, 10 and 5 Km routes are available.
FUTURE EVENTS:
If you have already entered the Discovery World Triathlon Cape Town but are not sure which club you selected, please let us know by return mail. We will compile a list of ATC entrants for the organisers and get them to update your details. This will help us to determine how many free entries ATC is eligible for. We need these entries so that our development teams can take part in the event again. WTS is offering our club one free entry for every 10 entries received. If you have not entered yet, please do so before 7 April and use “Atlantic Triathlon Club” as your club name when you enter. You do not have to be a TSA registered athlete to contribute to these entries. Any ATC member entering will contribute towards our free entries.
On Monday, 30 March at 18:30, Discovery WTS is hosting a talk about the event at the Olympic Cycles Shop at the River Club in Observatory. The talk will cover, preparation, transition, drafting rules and race strategy. Please RSVP to Savannah@worldsport.co.za.
If you are currently training for this event, post a selfie of your training session on one of the event’s social channels (Facebook, Twitter or Instagram) and you stand a chance to win a weekly hamper. We dare you to TRI!
Enjoy the Weekend!
