Comrades Verification, Supported Run

NEWS:

There was a lot of activity and podiums from ATC’ers over the long weekend at AfricanX, Walkerbay Xtreme, the Safari Half and various smaller events.  Well done to all on a long weekend well spent.  We will feed back on this in our next full newsletter.

Comrades Entry Verification

We have verified all ATC Running’s Comrades entrants!  If you didn’t receive an email from us in the last week regarding this, it means you are not entered under ATC Running.  So please let us know today if we didn’t contact you.

Verifications close tonight (2 May) at midnight.

Finish Suite in Moses Mabhida Stadium

As there are no club gazebos allowed in the Moses Mabhida Stadium, where the Comrades finish is, ATC Running has booked a 30-seater viewing suite, inside the stadium (on level 3 or 5), for our members to gather when they finish.  You are welcome to invite your supporters to the suite as well as it will have a view of the finish.  However, numbers for the suite are limited so we will have to give preference to our runners.

This suite comes at a huge expense to the club but since our resources at such a remote location are limited and we are uncertain of how we would be able to support our runners at the finish; the committee has taken the decision to incur this expense.

We will make a time to be at registration in Durban to collect any bags with clothing, etc, you may want to have waiting for you at the finish.

If you have supporters who can assist in the suite on the day, please let us know.

Please see details of our supported long run on Sunday, under Training.

SWIM:  The swim will be on Saturday, afternoons at 14:00.  Please note that we follow a different arrangement for the afternoon swims because the water taxi is in operation.  We swim up to the second bridge on the right-hand side (hugging the wall on your right shoulder), then anti-clockwise around the island (hugging the wall on your left shoulder) and back to the start on your left (hugging the wall on your left shoulder).  We all start as a group at 14:00 and no late starts will be permitted because we swim up and down on the same side and cannot have two-way traffic.

BIKE:  There will be a ride from the VA Point on Thursday morning at 06:00.   We will also do a 70-80 KM ride on Saturday morning from the Point VA at 07:00

RUN:  We will have a Track session on Tuesdays at 06:00 and on Wednesdays at 18:00.

Supported Long Run

We will host a supported long run this Sunday, 6 May, of up to 60 Kms.  The plan is to start from the Point Virgin Active at 06:00 and run along the Promenade, Coastal road, over Suikerbossie and Chapmans Peak.  Runners should reach the 30 Km mark near the boom on the Noordhoek side of Chapman’s Peak.  We will have support stops along the way with some refreshments, but you can also load your own in the vehicles at the start.

Please feel free to invite runners from other groups / clubs to join us for this run.

If you know of anyone willing to drive a support vehicle that will be highly appreciated.  We cannot support such a long run with a single vehicle.
