Congratulations to Jay and Heather Richards on the birth of their second son, Charlie Guy Richards, who was born on Thursday!
ATC Awards
The ATC Awards and Year-End Function will take place on Tuesday 25 November at the Col'Cacchio Pizzeria in Camps Bay. Please save the date while we plan a great evening! More details will follow soon and nominations for ATC Awards will open next week.
Double Century
We are making a final call for riders still interested in doing the Double Century. If you are still keen to do this event, please let us know. The end-date for team changes is this Friday, 7 November. Thereafter any changes will cost R 200 per change.
RESULTS & FEEDBACK:
What a great weekend of off and on-road triathlon in Slanghoek last weekend! Some great performances from ATC’ers with the following members all finishing in the top 10 of their age categories in the Long Mountain Bike Event: Open Men: Andrew Le Roux (4th), Shaun Roos (5th), Adriaan Van Wijk (9th) and Matthew Blake (10th). Herman Van Der Werf was the 6th Veteran.
Robyn Williams won the ladies race in the Long Mountain Bike event and Candice Van Wijk was 5th in this category.
Tanya Bronkhorst came second in the Short Mountain Bike event and Elrika Calitz was 3rd.
In the Long Road Bike event Dean Hopf was 4th overall (3rd SM), Jonty Low 8th (1st Sub-Vet), JD Neill 9th (7th SM) and Sean Hulley 13th (10th SM). Andrew Cronje was the 3rd Sub-Vet. Under the ladies Paula Armstrong was 11th overall and 8th in the Open Woman category.
In the Short Road event Dominique D’Oliveira won the ladies race with Anja Wolstenholme in 3rd (1st Junior). Tiaan Pretorius was 3rd in the Men’s race (2nd OM) with Jonathan Hartzenberg in 4th (3rd OM) and Jacob Bingle in 5th (4th OM).
This past weekend Tiaan Pretorius won Tri-Rock Robben Island and Robyn Williams won the ladies race. Ceejae Miller was the 3rd lady home.
Caitlin Van Den Berg won the ladies race in the 100 Km Cederberg Traverse two weeks ago. Husband Cobus Van Den Berg reports that this was the most amazing trail run they have ever done. They heard a Leopard and spotted its eyes during the night leg of the run.
Marilyn Fischer won the ladies race in the 62 Km Ultra Trail Cape Town last weekend.
Jakob Volmoer was 2nd in the 14 Km Matroosberg Trail Run last week.
Jennifer Stephenson and Collin Bradley Allin both got a 3rd in their respective categories in the Dubai 10 Km Desert Run last week.
Congratulations to Henri Schoeman for winning the 5150 Africa Champs, held in Germiston.
TRAINING THIS WEEK:
Friday Canal Swim: The V&A Canal Swim will start promptly at 06:00.
Tuesday Track: Track will be this evening at 18:00 on the field below The Bungalow.
Thursday Ride: We will ride from the Point Virgin Active on Thursday morning at 05:30.
Thursday Trail Run: We will run from the parking area on Kloof Nek at 18:00. It will be our usual route around Lion’s Head.
Weekend Ride: On Sunday we will do a long ride from the Point Virgin Active at 06:00. The ride will be along the Peninsula for 3-4 hours.
EVENTS:
Open Ocean Festival:
Have you got your teams ready for tomorrow’s 4 x 200 Meter Team Relay? This is one of the two Open Water Swims to be held during the Volvo Ocean Race Cape Town stopover at Quay 6 in the V&A Waterfront. The relay starts at 18:00 and the entry fee is R100 (R25 per swimmer). Entries close at 17:00 tonight. Enter on-line at www.ntri.co.za
Killarney Circuit Races:
Every Wednesday, during summer, there is a lap cycling race on the Killarney race track. Riders race for 1 jour plus a final lap. It is a handicap race where slower riders get a jump start on the pro field.
On Wednesday there is a 10 Km Road Run in the Strand. The West Coast Half takes place on Saturday in Blouberg and on Sunday there is the Cape Point Nature Run, offering distances ranging from 13 to 35 Kilometres.
The Wines to Whales Ride is taking place this coming weekend. The Race starts on Wednesday 12 November. The Engen Road Cycle Challenge takes place on Sunday in Wellington.
The Cape Times Big Walk, scheduled for Sunday 9 November, will NOT be taking place due to a lack of sufficient sponsorship.
FUTURE EVENTS:
Not doing DC? The XTRI Robertson event falls on the same weekend and includes off and on-road spring and Olympic distance Triathlons. Off-Road events are on Saturday and Road events on Sunday with Pasta Parties taking place on Friday and Saturday evenings. There are load of accommodation specials for event entrants.
