24 Jan '17: ATC NEWS
Published by ATC Multisport on Mon, 23 Jan 2017ASA Licenses – Discovery World Cup – Ironman 70.3 EL – SwimRun Results
NEWS:
And just like that 2017 has us firing on all cylinders! A few events under the belt already, we are packing for East London, planning teams for the Discovery Cup, realising that the Argus is around the corner and getting serious about Ironman PE and Two Oceans!
2017 ASA Licenses
We will receive 2017 ASA Licenses tomorrow and you can collect these from the ATC Container from 17:00-19:00 on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons. Please make every effort to collect on these two days as we will be heading for East London on Thursday and the office will not be open again until Wednesday 1 February.
You can use your 2016 ASA license until 17 February 2017.
Please note that ASA has two new regulations for 2017:
1) The paper form is back and in addition to the on-line registration, runners must also complete a registration form. To streamline collection, PLEASE DOWNLOAD AND COMPLETE this form before you collect your license numbers. Clich here to DOWNLOAD the form. We will not be able to issue a license without a signed form.
2) You have to wear both ASA License numbers, one on the front and one on the back of your vest. If the race organiser provides a race number, you wear that in front, over your ASA license, but not covering the ASA sponsor’s logo, as shown in the image below.
Ironman 70.3 Buffalo City
Information Evening:
We would like to thank Isuzu Trucks, Paul Wolff and Ironman South Africa for the great information evening hosted last Wednesday at the Protea Hotel in Sea Point. It was informative, fun to meet the “other” Paul Wolff, and filling thanks to all the eats and drinks provided. We look forward to a great weekend in East London.
Pre-Race Dinners at Grazia:
ATC has booked a couple of tables at Grazia in East London for Friday (27th, at 19:00) and Saturday (28th, at 17:00) evenings. The restaurant is located in the Upper Esplanade, Aquarium Road, Quigney. It is next door to the Virgin Active Club so is quite central to the hotels where most of us will be staying. If you would like to be part of the ATC Group for these pre-Half Ironman Dinners, please reserve a spot by completing the On-Line Form.
IRONMAN TriClub
The Atlantic Triathlon Club is registered as an Ironman TriClub and you can earn points for us each time you do an Ironman event. In 2016 we came second at the European TriClub Championships held in Pula, Croatia. It is time for us to start collecting points so that we can qualify for the Champs again. If you are doing an Ironman event this year and have not yet registered, PLEASE REGISTER NOW! TriClub membership is free and it only takes a few minutes to register. The link below will take you to a page that explains the process and there is also a video with instructions.
If you have a problem with registration, reply to this email and we’ll assist.
All ATC Members registered with Ironman TriClub under Atlantic Triathlon Club before Thursday this week will stand a chance to win a free entry into the Discovery Triathlon World Cup Cape Town or the Discovery Duathlon Cape Town, taking place on the 11th and 12th of February, respectively.
Discovery Get Active Weekend
The Discovery Triathlon World Cup (SwimCycleRun), which attracts 70 of the top international men and women elite triathletes, takes place on Saturday 11 February at the V&A Waterfront. For those who don’t swim, the Discovery Duathlon (RunCycleRun) takes place on Sunday 12 February 2017 at the Green Point Athletics Track.
There are various distances in each of the above events that make it totally doable no matter what your activity levels were over the festive season! You can do as little as a 2.5 Km run, or complete the full course that the Pros will be racing on.
The City of Cape Town has kindly made some entries in both events available to us and we will once again get as many of our development athletes to the blue carpet as possible. We will partner with YEP Cycling Clan and Songo.Info but would also like to extend the invitation to members who would like to be part of these teams. We need strong swimmers and cyclists! If you have already entered one of the events, you can join a team on the other days. Please reply to this email if you would like to be part of our teams.
Elsewhere in this newsletter you will find three opportunities to win an entry into one of the events! Have a read and make sure you get in with a chance. Entries close on Sunday 29 January so this is your last week.
For more information on the weekend, visit: http://www.triathlon.capetown/
TSA National Triathlon Championships
If you are a TSA Licensed Triathlete you would have received an email explaining the process for selection into the Provincial team to represent Western Cape / Western Province at the TSA National Championships, taking place in the Free State on 19 March 2017. Please Click Here to view the email with all the details and results of licensed athletes.
ATC Summer Sunset Team Time Trial
It was an extremely difficult decision to take but we have decided to cancel the February event, which was scheduled to take place on 22 February 2017.
There is an event scheduled at the Athletics stadium on that date. Over time, it has also become quite expensive and a strain on our resources, for ATC to host the event twice a year. We will still host the event scheduled for 18 October 2017.
We always schedule two dates per year because in the past we’ve often had to cancel one due to other events in the popular area. So then we have the other date as a backup. The February / early March time-slot is particularly busy in that area.
Unless there are other events looking for a Wednesday slot in late February / early March, we will continue to reserve this date and if the club can find a way to host twice a year, we will happily do this.
Member Personal News
Congratulations to Ceejae Miller and Mike Shea on the birth of their second son, Bradley Shea, who was born on 19 January.
RESULTS:
Torpedo SwimRun – 15 January
Wow, what a fantastic experience! The inaugural Torpedo SwimRun was a huge success and a terrific showcase for the coastline, in and out of the water, between Sandy Bay and Clifton. Most of us ride or run this stretch at least once a week but have never experienced the varying trail and rocky sections, not to mention the interesting water entries and exists. Apart from the cold water, the weather was perfect with calm seas and cloudy conditions for the run.
There are loadS of pictures on Facebook, which will give you a glimpse of this unique event and show you why we can’t wait for the next one!
Congratulations to Team Vivobarefoot with Greg Goodall and Jean de Villiers, who were second overall. Team Embark, with STeve Attwell and Megan Stephens were 4th overall and won the mixed team category. Team Galapagos with Josh Reinecke and Hanmarie Stadler was second mixed team. Team Mighty Moms with Vibeke Moore and Jessica Opie was the 3rd ladies team in. All ATC Members’ results for the event are HERE.
Spur Cape Summer Trail Series
At the first event of the series, held in the Lebanon Forest last Sunday, Evan Fortuin was 2nd overall in the Short Course and Daniel Arendse the 2nd Junior.
Red Hill
It’s too soon for results but we would like to congratulate all the runners who completed the Red Hill Classic (36 Km) or Marathon on Saturday.
Around the Rocks Swim
The Tygerberg Aquatic kids, whom you may have seen at the ATC Canal Swim, training for SA Open Water Champs, ruled at the Around the Rock Swim on Sunday. Top 4 overall went to: Andrew Richie (24:32), Nicholas Campbell (26:21), Dylan Wright (26:25) and Ryan Chandler (26:40). All competing in the Boys Wetsuit category. The Girls’ Wetsuit podium went to: Rebecca Meder (27:25), Abigail Meder (27:27) and Caylan Bromley (30:17). Robyn Williams (31:27), won the Female Wetsuit category and Vivienne Williams was in 5th in a time of 32:47.
TRAINING: Details here...
Please note that there will be NO CANAL SWIM on Friday 27 January 2017, as most of us will be in East London for the Ironman 70.3.
SWIM: Join us on King’s Beach on Saturday morning at 08:00 for swim practice on the 70.3 Swim Course. Look out for the ATC beach umbrellas.
BIKE: There will be no rides in Cape Town this week or weekend due to the Ironman 70.3 East London. We will be doing a leg loosener in East London on the 70.3 run course on Saturday morning at 10:00. Meet us at the Garden Court entrance.
RUN: Speed interval training will take place on the Green Point Athletics Track on Tuesday morning at 06:00 and Wednesday evening at 18:00. We will have a lucky draw at each session where one runner can win an entry into any one of the Discovery Active Weekend events!
