 Sunset TTT Results – One Run Entries – WPTA Selection
 

NEWS:

Summer Sunset Team Time Trial
Thank you very much to everyone who helped out or raced the ATC Summer Sunset Team Time Trial last week.  For the first time ever, we had superb weather, a beautiful sunset and an almost full moon.  We had more volunteers from ATC than ever before and we would like to say thanks very much to everyone who came down to help.  We would like to single out, Garth Dorman, Eckhard Scholtz and STeve Attwell, who had to deal with last minute route changes (due to the Argus “construction site”) and our team of route marshals arriving in the nick of time.  We welcomed back Paul Kaye, our famous Ironman announcer, who had a field day with the creative team names.  The #HOPEPHIL Fairies won the prize for the best dressed team whilst the Flying Platypuses walked away with the prize for the best team name.  The Arkwa Joggers were crowned worst-dressed but had the most original baton.
 
Congratulations to Easterns Kraaifontein, overall winners and Da Hui, who won the Corporate Category.  We have published team results on-line as well as at the bottom of this email. 
 
FNB Cape Town 12 ONERUN organisers gave us two free entries to the event as well as two UPGRADES to the GOLD PACKAGE.  The Gold Package is for runners who have already entered (or plan to enter) and includes a shuttle service to the start, exclusive access to the Gold Entrants areas and much more.  These were handed out as lucky draw prizes to teams.  FNB Cape Town 12 ONERUN have also kindly offered to provide each member of the winning team, Easterns Kraaifontein, a free entry into the event.  See more about this event under “Future Events”.
 
New Balance was present to showcase their latest shoes.  A couple of lucky runners even got to trial a pair and ran in the latest shows New Balance has to offer!
 
The next Summer Sunset Team Time Trial will take place on Wednesday 19 October 2016.
 
Win a Ford for a Month – ATC Time Trial
Kelfords Ford will give one lucky ATC Time Trial runner the use of a Ford vehicle for a month.  Each month, at the ATC 5 Km Club Time Trial, one runner will be selected to get use of the vehicle.  Since our time trial is held on a Tuesday morning and Wednesday evening, we will select one runner at each of these runs, who will then go into the final draw, to take place on the Wednesday evening, after the run.  In order to be eligible, the winner must be present at the draw and must be a fully paid up ATC Member.
 
Our first draw will take place tomorrow (Tuesday) morning and the prize will be awarded on Wednesday evening at Green Point Cricket Club, after the time trial.
 
Two Oceans Training
How’s your training for the 2 Oceans coming on?  With just under a month to go until the race, there is still time to get some training in:
This coming Saturday, we will do a supported long run between Camps Bay and Hout Bay for Ultra and Half distance runners (see more about this under Training).
Next week, you can come and join Garth and his Embark crew and experience some of the group’s training for yourself. There will be a hills session in Camps Bay on Monday at 18:00 and Thursday at 06:00, meeting opposite Caprice on the grass.  
Next Saturday (12 March) the group will run 20 Kms of the Two Oceans Half route.  The group will leave at 06:15 from the UCT parking area on the southern end of the Rugby field (where the race enters the finish area). 
All ATC members are welcome at these sessions.

XTERRA Grabouw

Cape Summer Trail & XL Series
In the final event of the Spur Cape Summer Trail Series, held in Grabouw on Sunday, Dawood Goeiman was 2nd in the Senior category and also finished second in the Short Course series.   Daniel Arendse and Bruzano Britz were 2nd and 3rd, respectively, in the Junior Short Course category and also finished the series in these positions.  Giobanni Sampson won the Minimee category. 
Greg Torr was the 3rd Veteran Male in the Long Course event.
Michael Gombart was 3rd Open Male in the Wildrunner Oak Valley XL 25 Km Trail Run.
 
Caitlin Van Den Berg was the 2nd lady in the 76 Km Addo Elephant Trail Run. 
 

TRAINING THIS WEEK:  Details here...

SWIM:  The Canal Swim will be on Friday morning at 06:00.  We noticed that a lot of swimmers are parking in reserved bays and are ignoring warnings from us regarding this.  Please note that the Waterfront will clamp your vehicle or have it towed, should the bay owner arrive while you are there.  We are lucky that most businesses there only open after we leave but there is no guarantee that a bay owner will not arrive while we are swimming.  The club cannot take responsibility for these vehicles and we cannot risk our access to this facility due to members parking irresponsibly.
 
BIKE:  We will ride on Thursday morning at 05:30 from the Point Virgin Active. 
We suspect most cyclists will take it easy on Saturday so we will not have a supported ride this weekend.  However, we will be supporting our runners doing a long run so look out for the ATC Ranger between Camps Bay and Hout Bay and feel free to stop for some refreshments.
 
RUN:  This week is our monthly 5 Km Club Time Trial and you will once again have a choice to run on the Blue Track or our route around the Cape Town Stadium.  This will take place during our track slot on Tuesday morning at 06:00 and Wednesday evening at 18:00.  So far there has no event been scheduled at the stadium so it looks like we will have access to the track.
 
On Thursday we will do a club run from the Green Point Cricket Club at 18:00.  We will run through the Park and along the Promenade for an hour.
 
On Saturday we will do a long run, starting opposite the Vida in Camps Bay, at 06:00.  The ATC Ranger support vehicle will be on duty and will offer support at three stops along the 30 Km route.  We will provide Coke, Water and other snacks but you can also load your own nutrition in the vehicle if you wish.  It will be an out-and-back run from Camps Bay to Hout Bay and back.  All runners are welcome (not just ATC members) and you can do a shorter version of the route if you are not training for the Ultra.

Good luck to all the swimmers taking part in the SA Open water Swim Championships this weekend in Grabouw!
 
On Wednesday is the Lighthouse 10K nite run from Rocklands Beach in Sea Point.  The Constantia Village 15 Km run takes place on Saturday.
 
On Sunday is the Cape Town Cycle Tour (Argus for short) and, bar fires or other disasters, bicycles will rule as over 30000 cyclists take to the famous circular route around the Cape Peninsula.  Good luck and safe riding to all the members taking part.

Knysna Forest Marathon
General entries for the Knysna Forest Marathon and Half marathon open this Wednesday, 2 March.  Entries will sell out within a day so be sure to visit http://www.knysnamarathonclubportal.co.za/index/kfm at 08:00 on Wednesday.  If you did the event last year, you can enter today already.
 
FNB Cape Town 12 ONERUN
What do you run on?  Be it adrenalin, caffeine, the beautiful views, camaraderie, the feeling of fitting into your favourite jeans, or being out there sharing the road with friends, you can chose YOUR reason for running with the FNB Cape Town 12 ONERUN.  This run celebrates everything Cape Town, its vibe, its beauty and its people.  Starting at Woodbridge Island in Milnerton, the route follows the coastline through the Harbour, past key city landmarks and finishes at the Portside building in the heart of Cape Town.

Discovery World Triathlon Cape Town
Entries for the third Discovery World Triathlon Cape Town and the inaugural Discovery Duathlon Cape Town are filling up fast.  You are advised to enter soon for these events, taking place on the 23rd and 24th of April, respectively.  Both events will take place in and around Cape Town’s iconic V&A Waterfront and Green Point precincts.  Enter at:  http://capetown.triathlon.org/
 
Durbanville Triathlon

Sports Massage Special
