Training Programs & Orientation

Join us on Wednesday at 7pm at the GPCC Club House (after track), for an insight into the sport of Triathlon with Iron lady pro Annah Watkins, as well as a chat with Kelly Stoltz about nutrition for endurance sport.  Following this will be the orientation for the upcoming triathlon season and the coaching offered by Embark.

Embark has several coached group training programs starting in January.  These programs are proven springboards for great improvement, better results and a more enjoyable race day:
Ironman 70.3 Durban (3 June 2018) – the program starts on 10 January 2017 and there will be an orientation evening at the Green Point Cricket Club at 19:00.
Ironman Africa Champs (15 April 2018) - the program starts on 10 January 2017 and there will be an orientation evening at the Green Point Cricket Club at 19:00.
Two Oceans Half Marathon (31 March 2018) - the program starts on 17 January 2017 and there will be an orientation evening at the Green Point Cricket Club at 19:00.
Two Oceans Ultra Marathon (31 March 2018) – this program is already running but you can still join in.
Beginner Triathlon – This is an ongoing program, which requires no previous experience with Triathlon and you can join in any time to get ready for events such as the Discovery Triathlon World Cup, West Coast Warmwater Weekend or the Walker Bay Extreme.

Embark has various branches:  CAPE TOWN:  Atlantic Seaboard (City), Northern Suburbs, Blouberg, Southern Suburbs, Somerset West; JOHANNESBURG.  The new UPINGTON branch staring in February!  You can join any program and train at the venue that best suits you.
Embark was initially started to guide first timers through the process of completing a triathlon and has grown and evolved to offer intermediate and advanced training for experienced athletes too.

WCTA Age Grouper’s League

The Western Cape Triathlon Age Grouper’s League point standings, for all events up to the Ironman 5150 NMB, have been published on the NEW WCTA WEBSITE!  For the latest standings and all WCTA / CTUTA Licensed athletes results at events during this season, please visit the result page here:  http://wctriathlon.co.za/results/

This League is sponsored by ATC and will include all TSA / CTUTA sanctioned events within the Western Cape as well as events further afield, in which a considerable number of WC Triathletes participate.  Points are allocated on the following basis:
We determine the average time to complete the event for each 5-Year age group (official ITU / TSA Age Groups).  If you complete the event in your Age Group’s average time, you will receive 500 points.  For every 1% that your time is faster than the average, you get an additional 10 points, up to a maximum of 1000.  For every 1% that your time is slower than the average, we deduct 10 points, down to a minimum of 100 points.

Please note the following:
We do not necessarily receive results from race organisers for each of the official Age Groups.  Some events only have 10-year age categories or even just juniors, seniors and vets.   For some events we have therefore estimated the average times for the official Age Groups.
Published point standings are provisional to give licensed athletes a chance to verify their results.  We will finalise results before the end of the season to determine the league winner.
Only your top four results will count towards the final league.  We will determine this once results for all league events have been received.
Only holders of a valid 2017-18 TSA license will qualify for league points.  All 2017 TSA Licenses have now expired so if your TSA number, as shown on the results, does not end with a /18, your points will expire before the league is finalised.

Old Wetsuits for Shark Spotters

Do you have an old wetsuit you are not using anymore?  If so, please donate it to Shark Spotters for the Fish Hoek shark exclusion net crew.  The crew works long and hard during the summer season to deploy and retrieve the net by hand every day.  This creates a lot of wear and tear on their wetsuits, which are essential for their job.  If you have a wetsuit you can donate please get in touch through the Shark Spotters Facebook Page or drop it at their Information Centre on Muizenberg beach.

Have a great 2018!
