Published by ATC Multisport on Thu, 29 Oct 2015Launching: Blue Track Session - ATC Vehicle – ATC Container
NEWS:
ATC at the Green Point Athletics Track:
We have signed the contract with stadium management and will start using the Green Point Athletics Track from November onwards! Our first session on the blue track will be this coming Wednesday, 4 November, at 18:00. ATC will have exclusive use of the track on Tuesday mornings from 06:00 to 07:00 and on Wednesdays from 18:00 to 19:00. We will meet at Green Point Cricket Club as usual and at 18:00 walk across to the stadium, sign in and do our session. After the session, all members must sign out as they leave the track.
There are a few rules though:
1) The session is only open to paid-up ATC Members.
2) As per our agreement with WP Athletics, all users of the track will be affiliated with Athletics SA and hold a valid ASA License (please see below for more details). You do not have to wear the license for the session or have it present.
3) All runners will sign in before entering the track and sign out after the session. We will use the same system as we use for the Canal Swim and members must obtain a barcode tag from ATC for this purpose.
4) ATC will report monthly on track attendance.
For the first session, on Wednesday afternoon, we ask that members wear an ATC Running vest or other ATC gear so we can launch the session in style!
2015 ASA Licenses:
ASA Licenses for the remainder of 2015 are now available at a reduced price of R50. These licenses can be used to meet requirements for the blue track session, at any event until the end of December 2015 and to enter the Two Oceans Half marathon as a licensed runner, before entries open to the general public.
Two Oceans Half entries for licensed runners open on 11 November and for other runners on 14 November.
To obtain an ASA Running License, order one from our on-line store, Tri SPaza, at this link: https://www.atcmultisport.club/shop/login-register?destination=shop/licensing
Embark Training for 2016 Running Events:
Are you planning on doing the Pronutro AfricanX three day trail run early next year? Or the Old Mutual Two Oceans Ultra Marathon (OMTOM)? Well, we have great news in terms of coached group training for both of these events. Embark teamed up with the ‘Queen of trail running’, Megan Mackenzie, and veteran Comrades and Two Oceans Ultra runner and coach, Bev Baker, to bring exiting training programs for these events.
They will both offer 16 weeks coached group training programs, geared to get you to the finish line with a smile on your face. The groups are progressive, structured, fun and social. The OMTOM Ultra program will be offered in both Atlantic seaboard and Southern Suburb areas of Embark. The AfricanX program will be run on the Atlantic seaboard and weekend runs will be on the trails in and around Cape Town.
For more information on these programs please check out www.embark.co.za or contact STeve: steve@embark.co.za
Embark’s coached group training for the Ocean Basket Bay to Bay started on Tuesday. This program offers training for both the 15 Km and 30 Km routes. It’s not too late to join!
On the triathlon front, the Ironman 70.3 Buffalo City Embark program is 3 months in, so if you have entered the race and need a little motivation to get in those longer sessions or get some structure, then come and join us at any of our coaching branches: Atlantic Seaboard, Southern Suburbs, Northern Suburbs, Blouberg Strand or Somerset West.
ATC Container:
We will officially launch the ATC Container after next Wednesday’s (4 Nov) track session! Please join us for a glass of bubbly and have a look around the new facility.
Since our move to Green Point Cricket Club earlier this year, a considerable amount of effort and money has been spent on preparing the container for storage, office and shop space for the club. We have made extensive use of unemployed casual labourers in the process, not only providing them with a valuable source of income but also adding to their skills.
We have also received some generous donations, contributing towards a great facility for the club.
· Mark Sochen, kindly arranged for free delivery of the container, through transport company MSC Logistics.
· Jon-Luca and Davide Del Fante, from Delmar Decorators, donated the special Marmoran Heatguard paint used for the top white coat. This will reduce the heat inside the container during summer. Jon-Luca also provided valuable advice during preparations.
· Jonathan Bernstein and All Phase Electrical supplied and installed all the electrical and light fittings throughout the container. They also fitted the dry wall door separating the storage and front areas.
Our sincere thanks go to the above members and organisations for their contributions, which amounts to several thousands of Rands worth of equipment and labour.
ATC Vehicle:
By now you have probably seen the elaborately branded new Ford Ranger hard at work wherever ATC is present! This awesome vehicle was acquired with the generous contributions from Kelfords Ford in Somerset West and ATC’s coaching partner Embark. ATC would like to extend our gratitude to Tristan Kelly from Kelfords and STeve Attwell from Embark who put in huge amounts of effort to roll this brilliant piece of machinery off the show room floor. The vehicle is not owned by ATC and our contribution towards the vehicle will be generated from profits of the on-line store, Tri SPaza, through the sale of club gear and membership administration.
We would also like to thank Colin Van Zyl from RBS Insurance for getting us an unbelievable deal for the insurance of this vehicle, our trailer as well as the new Tri SPaza “shop” in the Container.
Milk is Good, the digital design agency who developed our web site, was tasked with designing the vehicle branding with the brief that the vehicle must be, unmistakably ATC, whilst also giving exposure to our sponsors.
We look forward to many years of being driven by Kelfords Ford to events for which we are fully prepared for by Embark!
Member Personal News:
Congratulations to JD and Kiki Neill on the birth of their baby girl Keeva. Mom and Keeva were seen supporting JD to his AG group win at Slanghoek on the weekend.
RESULTS:
Combine the hospitality of the Breeland Estate, the beauty of the Slanghoek Valley and the race organising capabilities of Iqela Events and what do you get? A fantastic weekend of racing in what must be one of the best settings for a Triathlon in the World! And the dam looked even more beautiful with the orange ATC buoys floating on it. Certainly not an easy event with the wind and heat adding to the tough routes plotted by Pieter Du Plessis. But the athletes did their part and raced hard to make for an exciting weekend.
Congratulations to the following members for placing in their respective Age Groups (AG). All the ATC’ers results are at the bottom of this email.
Slanghoek Road Triathlon:
Dean Hopf won the Long Road Triathlon with JD Neill in second (1st, 30-34), Marsel Roos in seventh (2nd,30-34), Darrin Hofmeyer (3rd 35-39), Marco Stichini (1st, 40-44), Ryk Lochner (2nd, 45-50), Jenny Nel (Cape Multi) (2nd lady, 1st, 35-39), Henry Wolstenholme (2nd, 45-50), Anton Du Plessis (1st, 50+), Philip Le Roux (2nd. 40-44), Elrika Calitz (2nd, 25-29), Alice Oosthuizen (3rd, 25-29), Britt Hyland (3rd, 40-44), Adien Aggenbach (3rd 45-50), Alison Hartley (1st, 50+) and Denise Major (2nd, 50+)
The Long Team Event was won by Chris Laubscher, Clive Schulze and Andrew Scott.
Tyron Ingle exited the water in the lead after a brilliant swim but was, unfortunately, directed by the marshal to turn at the sprint event’s turn-around. He then aborted the long event and started and won the short race! Other ATC’ers who featured prominently in the Age Group categories of the short road event include: Stewart Mackay (1st, 30-34), Matteo Greyling (1st, u18), Nicholas Mortley (2nd, u18), Peter Hartmann (1st, 50+), Genine Manchip (2nd, 25-29), Anja Wolstenholme (1st, u18), Caylan Bromley (2nd, u18), Anneri Harmse (3rd, 30-34), Alison Ting Chong (1st, 40-44), Vasili Vass (2nd, 45-50), Ashraf Orrie (3rd, 45-50)
Slanghoek Off-Road Triathlon:
In the Long off-road event Matthew Blake was 9th overall and 3rd in the 35-39 AG and Rob McGaffin was third in the 40-44 AG. Under the ladies 35-39, Nienke Van Schaik placed 2nd Vibeke Moore 3rd.
In the short off-road event David Durham was 3rd overall and won the 30-34 AG. Gareth Dragt was 4th overall and won the 35-39 AG. Xanri Haak won the 25-29 AG followed by Elena Cremasco (2nd, 30-34), Jill Sindle (3rd, 30-34) and Megan Lloyd (1st, 40-44).
Other Results:
Karen Graaff won the ladies race in the 2 Mile Benguela Cove Open Water Swim held last week. This event formed part of the Freedom series.
Dominique D’Oliveira finished 2nd in her age group at the Obstacle Course Racing World Championships, which took place in Cincinnati last week.
TRAINING THIS WEEK: Details here...
SWIM: The Canal Swim will be on Friday morning at 06:00. A reminder to keep noise levels down prior to the swim as we are in the middle of a residential area.
BIKE: From this week our mid-week rides (Thursdays) will be on the road. We will start at 05:30 from the Point Virgin Active and will ride to Hout Bay and back.
On Saturday, we will do a long DC training ride of 5 hours plus, starting from the Point Virgin Active at 06:00. Route details will be posted on our training page.
RUN: We have now settled into the Tuesday morning and Wednesday, afternoon time slots for our track session. From 4 November onwards we will run on the Green Point Athletics Track.
On Thursday we will do our trail run from the Green Point Cricket Club at 18:00.
EVENTS: Details here...
The third event in the Biathle Series takes place on Friday evening at the Rustenburg Girls High School. It will double up as the 1st WP Biathle League Race for the 2015-2016 season.
The Wines2Whales mountain bike stage races start on Friday with the Adventure. The Ride and Race will follow next week.
SA Ocean Festival
The South African Ocean Festival is currently on in the V&A Waterfront and runs till the 8th of November. This week there is an Open Water Swim Knockout Relay (4 x 100m) on Thursday evening and a Team Relay or Individual Mile swim on Sunday morning. For more information, please visit: www.oceanfestival.co.za
The Landmarks Half, a scenic and challenging half through the Southern Suburbs is highly recommended! Whilst all pre-entries have closed, you can still enter the 21 Km or 6 Km on the day (Sunday, 1 Nov) from 05h00. The 21 Km starts at 06:00 so you can run this and be back in time for the Ocean Festival Mile. You are requested to bring a soft toy, puzzles, colouring books and crayons, and blow bubbles for the children at the Red Cross Children’s Hospital.
Other runs on Saturday include the Elsies River 10 K, the Bains Trail Run in Wellington, the Halloween Forest Night Run on the Muratie Estate, the Baytown Run / Walk in Pringle Bay and the Jackal Trail Run in Herbertsdale.
On Sunday is the Clifton 1st Sunday of the Month Swim.
Enjoy the Week!
