NEWS:
HopePHIL Fund Raiser
Thank you very much to everyone who attended the HopePHIL Pub Garden Sports Fundraiser, held in memory of Philippa Elford, on Heritage Day. Everyone had a lot of fun with the traditional garden sports and it took 20 rolls of Duct Tape to get STeve stuck on the Green Point Cricket Club Score Board! Over R 33 333 Rand was raised with the entry fees, raffle and auction! The largest single donor was an ATC’er who donated R 3333.33 in the spirit of Triathlon.
Family and friends of Philippa wishes to express and their gratitude to everyone who contributed. For great photos of the day, please visit the Event Page on Facebook.
Member Personal News
Congratulations to Bernard Griesel and Jessica Cloete, who got engaged on the weekend! Bernard and Jess met through ATC in 2010, but it wasn’t until a trip to London, for the 2013 ITU World Triathlon Grand Finale and a visit to the Provence, that they became more than club mates. The engagement is a year ahead of former ATC Treasurer and current Chartered Accountant, Bernard’s, “schedule”.
PPA AGM
The Pedal Power AGM will be held this evening (Wednesday) at 18:00 at the Auditorium, Canal Walk. All PPA members are urged to attend and cast their votes for more Road Funrides and League races.
RESULTS:
At the Heritage Day open water swim, Amy Barnes won the ladies 3 Mile (Channel Rules) in 1:13:03! Emma Alsop followed in second in a time of 1:16:30. Nicholas Mortley was 3rd in the 3 Mile wetsuit event (1:12:43).
Karen Graaff won the Channel Rules Mile in a time of 31:35, followed by Nicola Price in second (31:49). Dylan Wright won the Wetsuit Mile in a time of 23:28. Abigail Meder won the ladies Wetsuit Mile in a time of 23:30, with Kim McCracken in 3rd (29:42).
Bianca Marais was the first lady the 800 metre in a time of 14:23.
Biathle World Champion
Derek Oehley successfully defended his title in the Masters B Category of the World Biathle Championships, held in Batumi, Georgia recently. Biathle is an event that involves a run, swim, run and the legs are raced with continuous transitions like a Triathlon. The race length is usually a 200 m swim and 3 Km run, which is shorter than an Aquathlon (the Triathlon equivalent).

TRAINING THIS WEEK: Details here...
SWIM: There will be NO CANAL swim this week as we will all be in Clanwilliam. We will confirm next week about the swim moving to Friday mornings. We may remain on the Saturday afternoon slot for a couple of weeks longer.
BIKE: We will do our Mountain Bike ride tomorrow (Thursday) morning from the Point Virgin Active at 06:00. If you are in Clanwilliam for the weekend, keep in touch as we plan to do a ride on Sunday, mid-morning, from the entrance of the Dam resort.
RUN: Tomorrow (Thursday) we will do our trail run from the Green Point Cricket Club at 18:00. If you would like to join for the trail run, please reply to this email with your cell number so we can add you to the ATC Trail Whatsapp group. This group is used to discuss last minute plans as we often start a bit earlier if everyone can make it.
EVENTS: Details here...
This weekend is the Freshpak Fitness Festival in Clanwilliam! You can, once again, expect an exciting weekend. ATC has filled all the chalets in the resort and all are welcome to join us there at 19:00 on Saturday evening before heading down to the after-party. The dress code for this year’s party is “T”. If you arrive at the chalets or party, not dressed to the T, you will be forced to buy a Triathlon Visor!
The Boks versus Scotland RWC game will be screened in the tent directly after the Triathlon so we will all be heading there and will not have a braai at the chalets this year.
The third event in Green Forest Series is on Saturday at the Eikenhof Farm in Grabouw. The 10 Km and 21 Km runs will start at Cape Canopy Tours, at the top of Nuweberg Forest (you will be taken there by bus), meander through the forest and orchards and finish near Eikenhof Dam. Two lucky ATC Members can win free entries to this event by emailing info@raceinterface.co.za and telling them why you should get the entry.
Members staying in Cape Town can head for the mountains in the Ultra Trail on Saturday or the Chappies Challenge on Sunday.
The Hermanus Half and Cape Gate 10 K are the road runs on offer this weekend. The Hermanus Whale Festival is on this weekend and includes Open Water Swimming, Night Runs, MTB Races and Trail Runs. The Hermanus Berg & Beach 2-day stage run also takes place this weekend.
Sunday’s Clifton 1SOM Mile is now on the earlier Summer start time of 09:15.
The Bakgat Nite Run, sponsored by Store-Age Self Storage, takes place next Wednesday in Bellville.

Comrades Early Bird entries close today. After today the entry fee will increase from R380 to R420.
With the Voet van Afrika cancelled for 2015, there is a great alternative on the 17th of October in Barrydale, the Renosterbos Extreme. This event includes a 10 or 25 Km Trail Run and Mountain Bike routes of 71 or 47 Kilometres. Please email doornrivier@barvallei.co.za for more details.
Entries open tomorrow for the 2016 Freedom Swim, from Robben Island to Big Bay, which will take place on 02 April 2016.
Enjoy the Week!
