New ATC Home – Track Tomorrow (PM only) – Member Challenges

Just a quick reminder that for tomorrow’s track session we will be using our new home at the Green Point Cricket Club (GPCC) in Vlei Road, Green Point, right opposite the entrance to the athletics stadium.

We will use this venue for our track session from tomorrow, Tuesday, 24 March, onwards.  There will NOT be a morning track session tomorrow.  Only in the afternoon at 18:00.  From next week the morning track sessions will also be at the GPCC.

We will have an ATC Office Evening tomorrow at the GPCC from 17:30 onwards.  Please come along, see our new home and collect your gear and licenses ahead of Ironman and the Two Oceans runs.  Next week is a very short week so this will be your last opportunity to prepare for these events.

The final date for the “official opening” and our 2015 AGM will be announced soon.  We are currently looking at dates between 13 and 15 April 2015.

Member Challenges

Some of our members have embarked on interesting self-inflicted challenges to make the most of the large number of events crammed into March and April.

The Try Challenge:
Starting this weekend Steve Peirce will be attempting to do three ultras in the next three weekends.  Ironman this coming Sunday, the Two Oceans Ultra next Saturday and then the Robben Island Swim the weekend after.  This is all in aid of the Maitland Cottage, a specialist orthopaedic children’s hospital, based in Newlands.  If you would like to lend your support, sponsorship details can be requested from: Speirce@coronation.co.za

The 12-in-12 Challenge:
Take a handful of motivated, passionate ladies who love running and want to make a difference and what do you get? 12 months, 12 charities, 12 Half Marathons.
The idea of the 12-in-12 challenge evolved from Stacey wanting to spend more time being involved with charity, into forming a team that will be dedicating time every month towards helping 12 different charities during the course of a year.  As part of the challenge and to raise awareness for the month’s chosen charity, the team will also participate in a half marathon each month.

The concept of assisting the charities is to remove the pure cash donation element, the objective being to rather go and spend time with the chosen charity for that month. The group is made up of very enthusiastic and passionate team members who are all excited to get involved and get their hands dirty for with the cause for each month.

Along with the visits and spending time with each charity, they will feature them on their blog with details on how to get involved for the benefit of anyone who would like to join in, or make a make a donation.  By shedding light on these 12 charities they hope that people will become invested beyond the #12in12 and find their own personal challenge of doing something that makes them proud. You can see the team at upcoming local races such as Two Oceans, the Jive Slave Route, Knysna Forest Half, Cape Town Marathon and Landmarks

Team members: Stacey Rehbock, Milly Rehbock, Kirsten Gerber, Inge Hansen, Sofie Moens and Elze De Wet.  For more information, please visit their Website: http://the12in12challenge.com
