NEWS:
ATC AGM 2016
The ATC Annual General Meeting took place on Wednesday, 26 October 2016, at the Green Point Cricket Club. Below is some feedback from matters discussed and decided on at the meeting.
1) Additional ATC sub-club(s). It was decided, in principle, that ATC can go ahead and create additional sub-clubs to align with the Districts within the Western Cape, which has been adopted by Triathlon South Africa and the Provincial / District Associations. However, changes required to the ATC Constitution will only be done once the stipulations from TSA and the newly formed Associations have been finalised. We may also have to create specific Constitutions for each sub-club. It was therefore decided that proposed changes to the constitution will be presented at the next AGM, which is expected to take place within the first quarter of 2017,
2) Change to the ATC Constitution: “Audited Financials” to “Financial Statements”. This proposed change was accepted and will be applied to the current Constitution.
3) Committee Members for 2016-2017: Ten members have made themselves available to serve on the ATC Committee for 2016-2017. As all members will be accepted onto the Committee and there was no contention for positions, there was no need to vote. (See below for the new committee)
4) Membership Fees & Levy: The proposed membership fee increase was accepted. This increase was already accepted at the 2015 AGM, but was never implemented due to the proposed introduction of the “ATC Assist” Levy. This increase and levy will now come into effect from 1 January 2017. (See below for details).
5) Kelfords Ford-for-a-Month draw: With no club time trial taking place in October, this month’s Ford was drawn from the list of helpers at the SS TTT and those present at the AGM. The lucky winner was Serge Witkowsky.
6) General: A suggestion from the floor was that we look at making it easier for new members to come for their first training session at the club. Some new members may consider a track session quite daunting, so we need to communicate the fact that the sessions are for athletes of all levels and provide a point of contact / facilitator, who will be more approachable for new members.
ATC Committee 2016-17
The following members have resigned from the ATC Committee and we thank them for their service over the past term: Hilda Visagie Hopking, Japie Bingle, Jay Richards and Kevin Anderson.
The nine remaining members have made themselves available to stand again and we have one new member, Kirsten Milne. The ATC Committee for the next term of two years include the following:
Anthony Dean Barry Goliath
Garth Dorman Gert Wilkins
Ilze Els Jacqueline Vockins
Kristin Milne Paul Gordon Brown
STeve Attwell Travys Wilkins
Roles and responsibilities will be defined at the first committee meeting. Over the next couple of weeks the committee will focus on forming the new sub-clubs as well as the ATC 10 Year Celebrations, scheduled for Friday 2 December 2016.
Membership Fees 2017
Membership fees, effective 1 January 2017, will be as listed below. Any member who joins or renews before 1 January 2017 will still pay the current rate. The table below shows the ATC Membership Fees from 2013, compared to the new fees set for 2017.

ATC Assist Levy
Starting January 2017, we will introduce ATC Assist, an initiative that will give members the choice to either:
· Help out with club activities on two occasions during the year.
· Pay a “volunteer’s levy”, which will enable the club to hire casual workers for some of the activities members normally provide on a voluntary basis.
We first employed this concept a couple of years ago when WP Athletics offered clubs financial reward for hosting a water table at the Cape Town Marathon. Since then we have established a base of unemployed, or partially employed, casual workers who get paid to help out with club activities, whilst gaining experience with marshalling as well as other non-sport related tasks. Over the past two years, in particular, we spent a substantial amount on casual labour with the container renovation project, at our Sunset Team Time Trial events and providing marshals for the WTS Cape Town event.
We certainly don’t want to discourage voluntary help from our members as the club simply cannot function without this myriad of skills and services provided voluntarily. However, we understand that our members do this sport(s) for recreation and everyone’s time is limited. We also live in a country with a high rate of unemployment and millions of people desperate to earn a living and develop skills that they can sell elsewhere. Whilst we cannot employ a million, our activities now warrant regular casual labour throughout the year. With the proposed levy we will be able to grow this base and establish a pool of resources that perhaps other clubs can use a well.
With our two track sessions and canal swim happening every week and bi-annual Sunset Team Time Trial, there are certainly enough opportunities for members to volunteer assistance on two occasions per year. So the fee will only be compulsory for members who cannot or prefer not to assist otherwise. The levy will be set at R100 per year and will be charged in June each year. The levy will not apply to Scholar or Student memberships.
ATC 10-Year Celebration!
ATC is now 10 years old and this year’s Annual Awards Function will double up as a major celebration! Apart from the usual awards, we will also crown the ATC Athlete of the Decade! This special person may be one of the 20 former Athletes-of-Year or it could be someone who has consistently performed over the 10 years. It will not be purely performance based and ATC ambassadors will score some extra points. We will need help with this special award and will open the nomination process soon.
We are planning a formal affair at The Nomad, 33 Waterkant Street, Cape Town, on Friday 2 December 2016. Please reserve the date and watch this space for more details!
ATC Summer Sunset Team Time Trial
Thank you very much to everyone who helped out at the ATC Summer Sunset Team Time Trial last week. With an unexpectedly large number of late entries the field increased to over 120 teams, our largest field yet. But all went quite smoothly and we’ve received a lot of positive feedback. We have published team results below and are working on the individual lap times, which takes a bit longer, as manually recording times and numbers in the Transition area takes some doing!
Congratulations to the Eastern Destroyers (Kraaifontein) who blazed through their laps to, once again, take the overall win in 33:31. Team "Worst Pace Scenario" won the prize for the best team name and "The Running Dead" were certainly the best dressed this time.
Thank you also to New Balance and The RUN Store who were present to demonstrate the latest New Balance running technology.
