New TRI Season – 70.3 Pula – Club TT – Ford-4-a-Month

NEWS:

It was such an exciting couple of weeks watching the ultimate athletes do their thing at the Olympics!  Whilst Wayde Van Niekerk’s World Record (43.03) and Gold in the 400m and Caster Semenya’s Gold in the 800m (1:55.28, a new SA Record) will go down as the best performances for SA, the Triathlons were the most exciting races for us to watch!  In the Men’s Triathlon Henri Schoeman (1:45:43) pulled off a brilliant race and what must be the best run of his career to get Africa’s first Olympic medal in our sport.  It was such a surprise and so exciting to see Richard Murray (1:45:50) storming in just after Henri.  Such a comeback from Richard, not just for this race, where he delivered the fastest run split and made up 24 positions, but also for his amazing recovery after a bike crash at the of the WTS Gold Coast race in April left him with a  broken collar bone and wrist.
The ladies, Mari Rabie (1:59:13) and Gillian Sanders (2:01:29) did their jobs splendidly to finish 11th and 23rd, respectively.  It’s a great pity that there is no Triathlon Team event at the Olympics.  Rachel Klamer from the Netherlands, who often trains in South Africa, finished in 10th (1:58:55)
Our Triathletes made us so proud and we think it's going to do wonders for Triathlon in South Africa over the next couple of years.
