What is a World Cup
The XCO UCI Mountain Bike World Cup is a series of Olympic cross-country races which take place around the world on a closed course. Categories include Elite Men and Elite Women, as well as Under 23 Men and Under 23 Women.
The Stellenbosch World Cup will see all of the races taking place on one action-packed day, Saturday the 10th of March. Come prepared for a full day of live, high impact and exciting racing, starting off with the U23 Woman’s race at 08h30. With the final race of the day, the Elite Men, scheduled to rip off the start line at 14h50.
Welcome to an Epic World Cup
The 2018 UCI World Cup series kicks off at a new venue – stunning Stellenbosch, the mountain biking mecca of South Africa and a favourite venue for riders from around the world. Situated only 50 kilometres from central Cape Town, Stellenbosch, known for its incredible winelands and surrounding mountains with endless mountain biking trails to boast, was an ideal choice to host the start of the 2018 UCI World Cup Series. The opening race of the season will take place on the slopes of the Coetzenburg mountain, in the heart of one of the country’s finest universities, the University of Stellenbosch. The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) is the world governing body for cycling as recognised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). The UCI is based in Aigle, Switzerland, and their mission is to develop and promote cycling as a competitive sport, a healthy recreational activity and as a means of transport around the world.
