In 2017, the event offers a limited team competition for the 170 km. Between 30-50 teams of 6-12 riders will be accommodated in the 170 km event, riding in a team competition similar to the Coronation Double Century and Maluti Double90. Team spots will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. Teams will be seeded according to the average seeding eligibility of the team riders, and started with 30 sec to 1 min gaps. The team category will be followed by bunch start groups comprising of individual riders. (Teams that do not get a team entry for the 170 km route but who want to ride together, are welcome to ride together in the seeded group of the lowest-seeded rider in the team, as has been the case in the past.)
The two additional new routes are respectively 109 km and 40 km.
Normal entry fees apply until 30 September. No entries will be taken after 10 October, or at the event. Entries will be capped at 2 500.
Route overview
Starting from the Stellenbosch High School (170 km @ 06h30; 109 km @ 08h15; 58 km @ 09h15), all three routestake in the tough climb over Helshoogte before heading out towards Klapmuts.
While the 58 km follows the R101 to join up with the two longer routes at the R302, the medium and long routes continue towards Voorpaardeberg. The 109 km route turns left at the Windmeul Winery to join up with the long route on the R302, while the 170 km route continues towards Wellington, Hermon and Riebeeck Kasteel before returning to the venue, joining up with the two shorter routes along the way.
Various cut-offs will be enforced along the way to ensure cyclists will reach the finish before 16h00.
At the finish, various food stalls will offer tasty treats for sale, while massage therapists will take care of tired muscles.
