ATC 10 Year Celebration - Results

ATC 10-Year Celebration!
Our Annual Awards Function and 10 Year Anniversary Celebration will take place on Friday 2 December 2016 at the Nomad bistro fusion, 33 Waterkant Street, Cape Town!  Apart from our annual awards we will also crown the ATC Athlete / Member of the Decade

Member Personal News:

Congratulations to Tyron Ingle and Tamsyn Basson, who got married on Saturday 12 November.
Gilbert and Terri Lucas got married on Saturday 12 November.
 
And news just in!  Karen Botes Muller and Deon Muller just announced the latest addition to their family, Aidan Ray Muller, born at 08h43 this morning. 
 

RESULTS:

Cape Ultra Tri
We missed a couple of ATC’ers when we published the Cape Ultra Tri and Sprint results.  So we have updated results in the On-Line Blog Post.   We overlooked Ben Nortier’s result in the Ultra, he placed 3rd, in the 35-39 Age Group. 
Apologies to the following top placings we missed in the SprintMark Sochen (3rd 35-39), Peter Hartmann (3rd 50-54) and Maureen Dennehy (2nd 50-54).
 
Other Results
At the WP Athletics Open Meeting, held on 12 November, Daniel Arendse won the 3000m Steeplechase.
 
At the Green Point Little Athletics Meeting, held on 12 November, our Development Team performed as follows:  John Dean Links (u/16), first in the 100m and 2nd in the 400m; Owen Jansen (u/16) first in the 400m; and Shaunica Phillips (u/12) first in the 100m.
 
At the Kraaifontein Schools / Clubs Athletic Meeting, held on 11 November, our Development Team performed as follows:  Daniel Arendse (u/17), 2nd in the 1500m; John Dean Links (u/17) first in the 100m; Owen Jansen (u/17), first in the 800m; Shamodean Konthea (u/12), first in the 1200m; and Shaunica Phillips (u/12), first in the 100m.

SWIM:  The Canal Swim will be on Friday morning at 06:00
 
BIKE:  On Thursday morning we will ride from the Point Virgin Active at 5:30.  Please note the new earlier start time.
 
On Saturday we will do a coffee shop ride to Bootleggers in Kalk Bay.  We plan to be there by 08:00 so you can start from anywhere, at any time, as long as you arrive in Kalk Bay by 08:00.
 
RUN:  This week will be our Club Time Trial at the Green Point Athletics Stadium.  We will have the 5 Km Time Trial on Tuesday morning at 06:00 and Wednesday evening at 18:00.  Please remember to show your tag at the turnstile gates and scan in and out at our system.  If the Main Foyer is closed, we enter through the athletes’ entrance two doors down from the main doors.

The second-last event in the SCR Biathle Series will take place on the Friday at the Rustenburg Girls High School in Rondebosch

Sky Run
This weekend is the Salomon Skyrun, starting in Lady Grey and taking runners into the Witteberg, a South African mountain range just off the south-west corner of Lesotho. The range, which rises to 2408 metres, stretches for about 60km from Lundin’s Nek in the east to Lady Grey in the west.  Sky runners will self-support and self-navigate their way through either 100 Km, or 65 Km, of harsh trails at an average height of between 2200-2500 meters above sea level.  Good luck to all the runners taking part!
 
The To Hell & Back Mountain Bike Stage Race takes place this weekend.  On Saturday, riders swill start near the Cango Caves and ride over the Swartberg Pass, before descending into Gamkaskloof to spend the night in “Die Hel”.  On Sunday, riders return the same way.  It is a tough 60 Kms per day but the experience is totally worth it!
 
SATURDAY:
The Mitchell’s Plain Half Marathon is on Saturday, starting from the Rocklands Sport Complex.  There are also 10 Km and 5 Km routes on offer.  Other runs include the Klaas Maffa Memorial 15 K, in Franschoek, the Simonsig TrailFun on the Simonsig Estate and Run the Vines #9 on the Landskroon Estate.
 
The Langebaan Lagoon Challenge Road Bike race takes place on Saturday and offers 80 or 35 Kms of riding through the West Coast National Park.
 
SUNDAY:
Torpedo SwimRun Tour
There will be another Tour of the Torpedo SwimRun event on this coming Sunday, 20 November.  The Tour will introduce you to the sport of SwimRun and will provide a recce of the Sandy Bay to Clifton route, which will be used for the race taking place on 15 January 2017.  To book a spot on the tour, please visit:  http://torpedoswimrun.com/product/20-november-2016-tour/
 
St Luke’s Hospice Superhero Trail Run
The St Luke’s Hospice Superhero Trail Run takes place on Sunday from the Cricket Oval on UCT’s Middle Campus.  A fun event for the whole family that celebrates the uplifting work of St Luke’s Hospice and raises money to enable the organisation to keep caring for the terminally ill.  Dress up like a superhero and join the St Luke’s’ Hospice run.
 
OTHER:
Good luck to all the riders travelling up to Johannesburg for the Telkom 94.7 Road Bike Race, the second largest cycle race in South Africa.
The Langebaan Lagoon Challenge Mountain Bike race takes place on Sunday and offers 38 or 18 Kms of trails.
 
The Anne Basson Properties Trail run takes place on the Dornier Estate, near Stellenbosch, and offers 12 and 6 Km routes.

 

FUTURE EVENTS:

Robben Island Swim Crossings
Swimmers can now do Robben island swim crossings at any time of the year, with or without a wetsuit!  You can arrange a crossing through Big Bay Events, who will arrange all the paper work and admin to obtain permission to land on the island. Big Bay Events will keep a record of crossings and can also arrange a skipper and boat (at additional cost).  For more information and to register, visit: www.bigbayevents.co.za
 
Jailbreak Triathlon
Due to the drought, resulting in low water levels in the dam at Dorean Vineyards, Iqela events have decided to move the Jailbreak Triathlon to Breeland Cellars, home of the Slanghoek Triathlon.  The date remains Saturday, 10 December and on-line entries close on 24 November.  The distances are as follows:
Maximum Escape:  Swim, 1.8 Km; Bike, 82 Km and Run, 20 Km.
Minimum Escape:  Swim, 1.4 Km; Bike, 41 Km and Run, 10 Km.
